The Pennsylvania Network Against Torture is a statewide group of faith leaders concerned about the ongoing use of solitary confinement in our state prisons. Solitary or isolated confinement refers to being in 22-24 hour lock down, in a cell alone or with another person, for months, years, even decades. The coalition came together after a state wide conference on torture held in Harrisburg in 2008 at which we addressed not only the use of US sponsored torture in places like Abu Ghraib but torture in our prisons in the form of long term solitary confinement.
