Kansans United for Youth Justice is a organization advocating for juvenile justice reforms. They work to move from prison sentences and out-of-home placements for juveniles to a community-based model of justice. The group has put out a report on the "Principles of Juvenile Justice" and lobbies state leadership for reforms.

Mariposas Sin Fronteras

"Mariposas Sin Fronteras is a Tucson, AZ based group that seeks to end the systemic violence and abuse of LGBTQ people held in prison and immigration detention." They do bond fundraising, direct visitation, and statewide advocacy work.

Their leadership "consists largely of LGBTQ immigrants, many of whom have been detained. We actively organize towards a society based on the principles of equality, justice, respect, and liberation for all."

Minnesota AVP Anger Study

Describes the findings of a study designed to test whether inmates who participated in AVP exhibited reductions in feelings of and expression of anger. Authors state that results “support findings in other studies on AVP, which show that AVP is linked to reductions in violent attitudes, inappropriate behaviors, and recidivism.”

National Council For Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls (NCIFIWG)

From the website: "The two primary purposes of the Council are:

1) To ensure that no policies, laws, practices, organizing and services are made about women and girls who are or were incarcerated without including our voices, experiences and ideas for creating more effective outcomes. Our mantra is “Nothing about us, without us!” Through support, awareness and advocacy, the Council is committed to collectively building new and just policy grounded in social justice, human rights and dignity.

Power Inside

Power Inside works for safety, dignity and justice for women in Baltimore, MD. They do advocacy and education work, and one of their programs (of six total) is focused on women who are returning after incarceration.

Through our case management we work with women while in incarcerated to address their anticipated and realized needs and provide a continuum of care as they rebuild their lives after release."

Article in the July-August 2015 issue of The Atlantic.  What becomes of the babies of incarcerated mothers? Research suggests that having nurseries in prisons leads to lower recidivism rates for moms and better outcomes for their kids.

Prison Justice League

"The Prison Justice League (PJL) works to improve conditions in Texas prisons through litigation, advocacy, and by empowering [their] members. PJL was founded in 2013 to address conditions of confinement in Texas prisons, protect the civil rights of the incarcerated, and offer an opportunity for the voices of prisoners to be heard on the issues that affect them the most. [The] organization is a member-based organization made up of prisoners from state-run prisons across Texas."
