Black and Pink

Black and Pink is a prison abolition organization specifically focused on the support of LGBTQ individuals currently incarcerated. They are "outraged by the specific violence of the prison industrial complex against LGBTQ people, and respond through advocacy, education, direct service, and organizing."

There is camapign, visitation, and direct advocacy through some chapters of Black and Pink. Outside of the chapters, Black and Pink's biggest program the maintence of a pen pal program being LGBTQ prisonsers and their "free world" allies.

Books Through Bars

Based in Philadelphia PA, Books Through Bars is an all-volunteer nonprofit that distributes free books and educational materials to incarcerated people in PA, NJ, NY, MD, DE, VA and WV. It also offers programs that educate and engage the general public to think critically about issues of imprisonment.

Chicago Legal Advocacy for Incarcerated Mothers (CLAIM)

"CLAIM offers legal services on family law to incarcerated mothers, formerly incarcerated mothers and caregivers of children whose parents are incarcerated" whose cases are in Illinois. CLAIM visits women incarcerated in Illinois and runs classes in facilities.

Citizens for Prison Reform

Citizens for Prison Reform is a Michigan-focused, family-run organization. They do letter writing campaigns, legislative education days, and are focused on "reforming Michigan's prisons, and offering support and necessary information to loved ones who have someone who is  incarcerated in the Michigan Department of Corrections."

The AFSC offices in Michigan are involved with this program.

Colorado Criminal Justice Reform Coalition

"Founded in 1999, the Colorado Criminal Justice Reform Coalition (CCJRC) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to eliminate the overuse of the criminal justice system and advance community health and safety." The Coalition is comprised of "people convicted of crime, survivors of crime, and the families and allies of both." CCJRC does work to "advocate and organize for public safety strategies that are more holistic, effective and just."

Community Partners in Action (CPA)

CPA works in Conneticut to provide programs for juveniles and adults that seek to provide opportunities for healing, training, and transformation to people in the criminal justice system. CPA recognizes that, "for many, change is hard because of the complex issues they face." CPA seeks to respond individually and attentively to these complex issues to support individuals in changing their lives. They provide a variety of programs to over 10,000 adults and youth in Conneticut each year.

Community Works

Community Works is a restorative justice arts organization. They seek to use bring together the community through art to "heal from the impact of incarceration and the behaviors leading up to it "create social and institutional change to better meet the needs of incarcerated individuals, their children and their families." They have a variety of programs both in prisons and jails and in the community for individuals and families experiencing incarceration or re-entering.
